June 18 (Thursday) Join the Vista Townsite Community Center from 10-1 p.m. for Diversity Day Fair: A Health Fair and Career Fair All-in-One. Local health organizations will be providing free glucose, Body Mass Index (BMI), High Blood Pressure and cholesterol screenings. Over 25 companies will be in attendance so whether you’re looking for the right career or a fun summer job, the Diversity Day Fair is where you need to be. June 19 (Friday) The Village Idiots Literary Society presents their monthly literature reading featuring poet Clifton King. Clifton King is a California poet whose poetry has appeared in a number of anthologies and literary journals. He published his first book of poetry “Stolen Afternoons,” in 2006 and was awarded in 2008 from Mira Costa College Friends of the Humanities. June 19 (Friday) – The Vista Village Business Association proudly presents the 5th Annual “Summer Music Concert Series” beginning June 19, 2009. July 4 (Saturday) The 41st annual Red, White & Boom Independence Day Celebration will light up the sky on Saturday, July 4 in the newly renovated Moonlight Amphitheatre. The annual Independence Day Celebration held in Brengle Terrace Park, 1200 Vale Terrace Drive, is free to the public with fireworks scheduled to begin at 9 p.m. Parking is $5 per vehicle at the park. Parking and shuttle services are available at no charge from Vista High School, One Panther Way, Vista. A fundraising gourmet BBQ will precede the fireworks display. Dinner includes: reserved parking adjacent to the amphitheatre; a gourmet barbecue dinner with beverages; and reserved seating in the Moonlight Amphitheatre for San Diego County’s largest aerial fireworks display. Dinner is $60 per person or $450 for a table of eight when purchased before June 14. Individual dinner tickets will be $65 per person and $500 per table of eight starting June 15. November 7 (Friday) The Vista Art Foundation will hold a public reception, open to all, at the new art gallery located at 205 Main Street in historic downtown Vista beginning at 5:30 p.m. for Sheldon Lenkowski. Sheldon started out as a New York based Graphic Designer and had many national and international clients. He relocated to Vista in 2001, and expanded his talent to creating children’s art using felt fabric. His latest foray is Scratch Art, a form of etching. GREATER VISTA FIRE SAFE COUNCIL meets on the third Monday of every month at the Vista Public Library, 700 Eucalyptus Ave., from 6:30 to 8:15 p.m. The Council's mission is "To mobilize the community to preserve, educate and protect lives, property and the environment from multi-hazard incidents." The Fire Safe Council can be used as a forum to share information, solve problems and link related programs to save money and time. The public safety issues the council discusses may extend beyond fire safety to earthquake preparedness, emergency medical response.

Low-Cost Spay/Neuter Program Offered to Local Residents The North County Humane Society & SPCA (NCHS) will now offer low-cost spay/neuter vouchers to all Oceanside and Vista Residents. The voucher is part of NCHS’ Project KEPPT (Keeping Every Person and Pet Together) program. Project KEPPT is designed to help people who are faced with a crisis and must make the decision whether or not to keep their pet. Pet owners can purchase the vouchers at NCHS, located at 2905 San Luis Rey Road in Oceanside, any day of the week from 10am to 5pm. The cost per dog varies by weight and sex; fees start at $65 to $105. The spay/neuter costs for cats are females $50 and males $60. Project KEPPT also offers low-cost vaccinations, a pet food bank, help with behavioral issues and access to many other resources. Residents can apply to receive the full benefits of the Project KEPPT program by visiting www.nchumane.org or during Project KEPPT day, the first Sunday of every month from 1pm to 3pm.
